Pioneers' Evening – Expansion Dieppe Celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a Grand Reunion

Dieppe, November 25, 2024 – Expansion Dieppe celebrated fifty years of economic development and commitment to the community on November 21st at the Wingate Dieppe Hotel on Place 1604, during its Pioneers' Evening. This landmark event brought together former board members, directors, entrepreneurs, and key contributors to Dieppe’s success. The evening was an opportunity to highlight the work of the city’s pioneers, the visionaries who played an integral role in Dieppe's growth.

Adel Gönczi, Chair of the Board of Expansion Dieppe, took the opportunity to emphasize the essential involvement of the Board of Directors and its volunteer members, who are the true pillars of Expansion Dieppe’s success. Their constant dedication and strategic vision have played a crucial role in the city's development, allowing Dieppe to prosper and attract new opportunities. Adel expressed her gratitude to each current and past board member for their unwavering commitment: "The success of this organization is largely due to their leadership and dedication to the community."
Louis Godbout, Executive Director of Expansion Dieppe, highlighted the organization’s evolution since its creation in 1974: “Expansion Dieppe has evolved over time to meet the aspirations of the City Council and is now more than just an economic development agency; it has become a pillar of our community, a driving force behind Dieppe's prosperity. Thanks to the commitment and vision of our founders and partners, we are now able to continue offering a dynamic and attractive environment where businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive in Dieppe.”
Guests had the opportunity, through images and testimonies, to relive the exceptional journey of the organization, from the creation of Dieppe Industrial Park Ltd. in 1973 to its current growth and success. The efforts of all those who have played a key role in shaping Dieppe over the years were warmly recognized and celebrated.
The evening also celebrated iconic figures from the organization’s history, honoring Mayor William (Bill) Malenfant posthumously, Mr. Elie Richard, Mr. Irénée (René) Bourque, and current Mayor Yvon Lapierre for their roles in the city's development. The honorary artworks, created by artist Monette Léger, symbolize their lasting impact. Midland Transport, a key player in the transport sector, sponsored the piece dedicated to Elie Richard, recognizing his influence in the sector. Goguen Champlain Financial Services supported the artwork dedicated to Irénée Bourque, former leader of Goguen Champlain Insurance and a pillar of the community. A special tribute was made to current Mayor Yvon Lapierre for his more than twenty years of dedicated service to the Dieppe community. Thanks to his leadership and vision, Mr. Lapierre continues to guide the city toward a promising future.

Hosted by Adam Gould, a much appreciated Dieppois, the evening gave him the opportunity to express his pride in his hometown, where he was born and raised. The Trio Carte Blanche added an elegant and warm touch to the evening with its jazzy rhythms, creating a memorable and refined atmosphere that was enjoyed by all attendees.
In conclusion, this evening, full of emotions and memories, not only celebrated Expansion Dieppe's 50 years of history but also reaffirmed its commitment to a prosperous future for the city. This anniversary marks an important milestone but is, above all, a springboard toward the great ambitions ahead. Together, we will continue to build a dynamic, inclusive, and resilient Dieppe while honoring the legacy of the builders who paved the way. With a clear vision and strong partnerships, Dieppe's future promises new opportunities for generations to come.

About Expansion Dieppe:
The agency dedicated to economic development in the City of Dieppe was founded in 1974, originally established as "Dieppe Industrial Park Ltd." following a municipal order issued in 1973. At the time, its primary mission was the development of the industrial park. Located in the heart of Atlantic Canada, Dieppe was already an ideal location, and efforts were needed to attract commercial and industrial businesses to the area.
Dieppe's growth since the 1970s is largely based on the ongoing success of expanding the sector, providing serviced land for businesses and private investment. The Industrial Park continues to grow, with development plans in place to support the ongoing industrial and business growth.
Expansion Dieppe has developed a proactive approach, positioning itself as a promoter of opportunities and a leader in the economic development of the southeast region.
The 50th anniversary of Expansion Dieppe in 2023-24 provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the agency while looking forward to the future with optimism.
